                         ^ there she is. 

She's getting big and taking up space. Sigh, we got a long way to go!

HDBD: V-day edition

Now you might be thinking, 'now she's really lost it. Valentines Day isn't for almost a month!' But you would be slightly off target. Today Coco is 24weeks and considered in most circles to be "viable". That means that if something crazy happened and she were to be born today, she'd have a 50/50 shot of making it. Clearly, we want her to bake for a lot longer but it makes me feel better to know that we're no longer 'helpless'!! Coco is moving and shaking lots more now. Some are distinguishable from the outside, but Mister and Munchkin have yet to catch her. I can't wait to see what Munchkin thinks about it. 

Munchkin had a hard time waking up this morning. 

January Happenings

So it snowed again while Mister was gone. Good thing I have such a great helper to take care of the driveway.

 This was on our day that school was cancelled due to extreme cold. 

 Here's Munchkin and Mister waiting to see Coco at the Doctor. 

 Then we had Sunni and Joey come to visit! Sunni decided to be brave and test the ice on the pond. 

 So then Joey and Mister had to be brave too. Pregnant Lady and Munchkin and the dogs stayed on the sidewalk to take pictures.

 Then they got REALLY brave!

 We took them to the zoo.

 Munchkin always loves the aquarium. 

She even got brave enough to let mommy help her touch a starfish. 

She loved showing the girls the fish

 We found about 20 peacocks strutting their stuff for their girls. 

 We took a break at the playground.

 In the jungle Munchkin found a tree swing.

I don't think I'm changing that much, but families that haven't seen me for a while definitely notice. 

I'm also leaving you with an article from Psychology Today that my friend found on the trouble with bright girls. It actually fits right in with a conversation we had with Sunni and Joey here last weekend about teaching kids that they are innately smart vs. teaching them that their efforts are valuable and they can learn and grow and challenge themselves. We've been working really hard in classrooms to change our language from 'bad' and "naughty" to "making good/bad choices", but with all the terrible things that happen to children these days, we also try to instill in them a belief that they are smart and good and capable. Clearly, a valiant attempt to produce positive self-image. However, Sunni brought us some research, and this article also talks about, specifically with girls a trend towards feeling that if they meet a challenge, it means that their innate smartness could not handle it. Whereas with bright boys, they see it as something to be accomplished. I don't think that what we do is wrong, but it makes me think about the words I use with Munchkin (and Coco!) and creating an environment in which she believes herself to be capable AND feel that she can tackle the unknown. 

Here's to being a good parent! I'm sure they'll need therapy at some point...

Coco is a...

GIRL!!! 

We had our big anatomy scan on Monday and found out that we will be adding another girl to our family. Coco is currently on the big side, weighing in at 1 pound, 2 ounces and fabulously healthy. We stopped at the store on the way home and found some pink balloons to use when we called family. Munchkin was pretty thrilled... about the balloons and Coco. After the tech told us, Munchkin stared at the screen and pondered it for a while, and then asked "does Coco have a bow?" LOL What a sweet girl.
