Selfish Mess

A friend of mine posted this article today "I Wasn't A Good Mom" to Facebook. Man, I know that there are some days that I need to remember this concept more than others:

"...being a parent means many things, one of which is that I cannot always be the selfish mess I want to be.  This makes me a better person, but it is also oh so hard..."

I'm going to try to keep this in mind as Munchkin and I tackle the next two weeks together with minimal plans. :) It's going to be great to just have some time, and we're going to have fun, but I also know that there will be times that I just want to be lazy and watch the View without someone saying, "Mommy Mommy Mommy"!

In other parental reflection news: I have had another opportunity to hear my voice through Munchkin. Today we were in the car, Mister and I in the front seat having a conversation. In the back seat Munchkin is singing and talking to herself, and then I hear, "Look at me, Mommy, Look at me. I hear birdies singing." Sigh, we've been working on the social rules of eye contact. Not in the ASD way, just in the 'be polite and look at the person when you're speaking to them' way.

If you're just getting to this one, you have 3 more below it with WAY more entertaining pictures of my princess!! So scroll away!

Memorial Day Weekend

We had a beautiful day on Saturday. Pulled out Munchkin's new sprinkler and our cornhole boards. She's one cool chick!
She was pretty worried about the sprinkler, but AhHa showed her it was ok
 There that's better!
 Ok this is fun!

This really is about as close as she got

Daddy tried to show her how to run through the water and she was NOT interested.

Birthday Time!!!

AhHa's banner is posted.
Puppies getting some love from AhHa
 Munchkin's new basketball goal
Grandpa and Nana iChatting for presents
We had an awesome moment, where Munchkin picked up a silver present and exclaimed, "Mommy it's an iPad!!!" We laughed and laughed. She opened it and was just as excited over it being a book.
Dash was pretty worn out watching all of the excitement.
"This is called the "sweet spot", Munchkin"

Birthday cake!
She blew out the candles like a champ
She did the exact same thing as last year: picked off the rosettes and was 'all done'.

Day with Daddy

Mommy had to work, so Munchkin got to stay and play with Daddy. They went and checked out the Children's Museum.
Munchkin loved the water tables, but Daddy said that she was getting the other kids wet.
 Shopping in the little city
More water for my studious girl.
 Little Maestro!
 Munchkin loved 'mowing' the lawn.
 Munchkin sized house
Of course they would be able to pick corn in Nebraska.
Munchkin and Daddy made some Fancy Nancy jewelry together
Daddy made her a tiara. *Heart melts*
 Fancy Nancy
Apparently there were sheep to ride and other pretend animals to pet.
Then Daddy had to chase her into this thing, much to the concern of the other parents.  :)

Learning about how to use scissors with Daddy.

American Idol

Ladies & Gentlemen... it's American Idol!!
.....with the water hose for a microphone... good thing Mommy's not a germaphobe!

I can't make YouTube work right, so you can click the link to see it instead.

We spent a long time outside tonight listening to music and looking at books, just enjoying the weather and family time.
My sweet girl and her windblown hair. 6 more days until birthday!
